Visiting Rome for the first time was quite a challenging experience. We were there just four days – and after these four days we had the streets in our bones and minds.
That was a lot to see, to digest and to hear.
Rome is a busy city. Busy with sound, busy with people, busy with visual experience. So much to photograph in those streets – despite the fact that everything popular has been photographed plenty of times.
You need to be selective, and being there for the first time, selection actually means to cover some ground, getting an overview and getting my Roman visual storyline „in order“.
Sometimes, a library is so huge that it takes time to first understand what the library is about and where to find things of interest.
Starting with the obvious
There is so much to see and photograph in Rome – one will never cover everything. Rome is probably one of the most photographed cities, there seems to be nothing that has not been made a picture of. The most impressive sightseeing places – all one can do is try to find one’s own resonance with those places and understand what it is that we see in that place, what we emphasise and what we leave away … for example the water from the fountain – as it is under construction …

Getting in the Mood
Besides the obvious, there are scenes that could show Romes identity – one could see those pictures and identify „Rome“ without the need for any tourist attraction being shown in the picture.

Hidden Gems
The streets of Rome are full of not so obvious photographic gems. Finding them takes exploration on foot and tired feet in the evening. These photographs are not the „obvious“ Rome …
