Exmoor and the Exmoor National Park are located in South-Western England, not so far away from Bristol. It is a great location for hiking, spending time on the beach and of course: photography. With a wide variety of what to shoot, one can plan something entirely different every day.
Porlock and the Porlock Marshes
Located between Minehead and Lynton, Porlock is a nice and quiet village with good restaurants and some interesting shops. To the coast, there is quite a barren area that I would call the Porlock Marshes, with interesting remains of dead trees.
Though the overall mood might be quite dreary, black and white interpretation gives nice structures and simple shapes that work very well on this scenery.
To the West of Porlock one can follow the South West Coast Path that will eventually bring you to Culbone, St. Bueno‘s Church Yard.
On the way along the Coast Path, there are some interesting remains of fallen trees.
Further down the Coast Path – if you follow the way down to you come to remains of old Fisherman‘s huts and some Groynes.
Not far away from the coast, between Porlock and Lynton, there is an enchanted forest near the road named „Stent Hill“. It is not that easy to find, leaving the A39 on Stent Hill, there is a small forest to your left with a fence very soon coming to a small „over the fence“ staircase with a footpath beyond. If you follow that footpath you will get through very interesting trees and eventually come across this single standing stone.
Lynmouth and the Valley of the Rocks
Lynton is situated on a cliff – a steep road brings you there. The village is more „touristy“ than Porlock with very nice shops, bars and resturants. It is the heart of Exmoor.
Small things can be discovered in the streets of Lynton, like the beautiful sculpture or the paintings on the wall.
Drivin through Lynton, one comes to the Valley of Rocks, here is great opportunity to photograph the scenic coastline, best during sunset.
